La Puerta de Alcalá is one of the five royal doors giving access to the city of Madrid travelers who came from France, Aragon and Catalonia. It is located next to the Fountain of Cibeles and the Retiro Park.
It was built by order of Carlos III to replace another front door that has existed since the sixteenth century.
